High risk pregnancies

A high-risk pregnancy is where either the mother or the baby is at risk of developing complications which would otherwise not have occurred normally. Common conditions include pre-existing diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes in the mother, previous miscarriages, pregnancy-induced hypertension or diabetes, low-lying placenta, etc. It is imperative that pre-existing problems in the mother are adequately treated before trying for pregnancy, and high-risk conditions that develop during pregnancy are closely monitored and managed. Otherwise, it can adversely affect the mother and the baby and even prove fatal at times.
